Luke 6:22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. 23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. Samuel Burgeon was an extremely wealthy packrat. He had every pleasure his heart could desire, yet he was not happy. He found himself envious of his poor neighbor, who always seemed joyful. Wat most people do not understand is that joy is not about pleasure. Pleasure is fleeting, and once it is gone, we may find ourselves sadder than before. Joy is deeper than pleasure. It is a fundamental knowledge of goodness, of God's goodness, which is able to sustain us. So when someone wishes you joy this Christmas, remember, it's not about the pleasure, but about knowing God's goodness.
